Renault Trafic Facts & Figures

The Renault Trafic range includes panel vans, crew cabs, minibuses and custom conversions for an array of commercial uses. The newest generation of the Trafic is both technologically advanced and reliable, with lots of comfort features to go with its more practical elements. Efficient engines, lots of load space and inexpensive price tags help this range to shine, with older models following a similar pattern.

First introduced in the early 1980s, the Renault Trafic has only just entered its third generation, with a range of revisions to the tried and tested formula offered to allow it to take on its current rivals. Built on the same platform as the Vauxhall Vivaro, the latest Trafic panel van comes in both SWB and LWB varieties, with buyers also able to choose between low or high roof options and even have glazing in the rear if the panel set-up is not suitable. Load volumes start at 5.2 cubic metres for the SWB low roof model, rising to 8.3 cubic metres at the top of the range, which means it is not short on space. Load length is similarly impressive, with an additional area beneath the passenger seat available to accommodate objects up to 3.75m long, or 4.15m for the LWB variant.

The Trafic crew van boasts two rows of seating, allowing up to six people to get in and still leave plenty of room for equipment in the rear. What makes the latest Trafic particularly attractive is the inclusion of a touchscreen multimedia centre with a seven-inch display in the dash, giving excellent control over all of the entertainment features. Inputs for USB, Bluetooth and aux audio make the interior a good place to pass the hours on the road, while the adjustable seating and steering column mean that the driver and passengers can get comfortable and enjoy the ride. The crew van even includes reclining seats with arm rests in the rear, along with reading lights and a power socket. A 3.2 cubic metre load space for the SWB crew van, coupled with a full-height bulkhead, makes it more than a match for most commercial tasks.

The Trafic Passenger has nine seats on board and aims to emulate the features and feel of a car, but with the convenience and commercial value of a minibus. Keyless entry is now common across all models, as are safety and security features such as ESC, rear parking sensors, cruise control and even a wide-view mirror.

The Trafic range comes in three trim levels - Business, Business+ and Sport - with the top-tier model offering extras such as metallic paint, 17-inch alloy wheels and a leather steering wheel as part of the price. Diesel engines ranging from 90PS to 140PS are available on current models, with extra-urban fuel efficiency pushing close to 50mpg. With conversions to accommodate refrigeration units in the rear and lots of quality used models on the market, it is easy to find the right Renault Trafic for your purposes. All in all, this is a good choice.
