Sister van to the Renault Trafic and Vauxhall Vivaro, the Nissan Primastar and siblings represent a massive 28% of the segment across Europe. Popular indeed.
With SWB versions built in Luton and LWB near Barcelona, Nissan have sought to make the Primastar as different as they can from their French and American counterparts. They are looking for as much as 4.5% of the market – a bold forecast indeed.
2010 saw the Nissan Primastar get some new Euro 4 engines, a minor facelift and some added interior bits and pieces. Nissan Primastar buyers can still choose from three diesel engines – the 1900cc has been replaced by the 2000cc common rail developed with Renault power is up from 82 to 90PS and 100 to 115PS. This power does come at a small MPG cost, with CO2 emissions at 214g/kg. The timing is now controlled by a chain, giving longer life in operation and a quieter ride.
The top of the range Euro 4 2500cc engine has had a power boost from 135 to 150PS, whilst the fuel consumption remains the same at 32.5mpg. This is achieved thanks to a variable vane turbo and a particulate filter. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard – opt for the 115 or the 150PS and you can go for a semi-auto version of the same gearbox.
A facelifted front, including new headlights and grille at the front and a revised, larger bumper at the back distinguish the 2010 model from previous Primastars. Two new colour have been added to make a choice of 12 – we understand ‘Storm Blue’ but what is ‘Beige Grey’?
