Under the bonnet as standard on all Shogun Commercial models is a 3.2 litre diesel engine which Mitsubishi describes as the largest unit of its kind to use four cylinders in a production vehicle on the road today. With a turbocharger on board, it has both plenty of torque and enough power to function effectively either on the road or off it. It is also an efficient power plant, especially compared with the dirtier diesel engines that this type of off-roader would have relied on in years gone by. So it could cut costs if you are relying on an outdated alternative at the moment.
A five-speed auto gearbox is available as an option on these commercial models, while standard front and side airbags help to keep safety levels up. The Super Select 4WD system is another universally available feature on the Shogun Commercial, giving drivers the option to choose between four different modes, depending on the state of the road ahead. The most efficient and civilised of them all is 2H, the two-wheel-drive setting for typical use on the tarmac. 4H gives high-range four-wheel-drive performance, using a centre differential to put power through every wheel in a balanced manner. 4HLc locks the differential to boost traction when things get really slippery, and 4LLc is a low-range setting for maximum torque and traction.
Extras such as electric windows and mirrors, central locking, cruise control, steering-wheel controls, heated leather seats and more can be specified for the Shogun Commercial, depending on how far your budget will stretch. The only real downside is the aforementioned lack of load space on the inside, particularly for the SWB Warrior and Barbarian. If it is lots of room you are seeking, then the Shogun Commercial may not be for you, but for taking passengers in comfort off-road it is one of the best vehicles around and endowed with unshakable reliability and durability that few of its competitors can match....
