FACELIFTED 2012 MODEL FORD TRANSIT INFORMATION
- New engines, gearboxes and eco technologies will be introduced to cut emissions and fuel bills. Ford are billing this as a ‘new generation of Duratorq TDCi engines’ which will be introduced alongside a raft of new ‘ECOnetic’ systems. The focus of these systems is on the rolling out of Auto-Start-Stop and Speed Limiter systems.
For the first time there will be a choice of just one engine regardless whether front- or rear wheel drive – a new 2.2-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi.

The new Euro 5 engine uses a higher pressure common-rail direct injection system with variable nozzle turbochargers and an upgraded Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and coated Diesel Particulate Filter (cDPF) system to reach Euro 5.

The range of available Ford ECOnetic Technologies has been extended – customers can now specify on their Transit Ford’s ‘Smart Regenerative Charging’ plus the Advanced Battery Management System and an optional ECO Pack, which includes switchable Auto-Start-Stop and 110 km/h Speed Limiter function.

Front-wheel drive Transits will get a choice of powers from 100, 125 up to 140PS. The rear wheel drives will get the biggest output at 155PS. Power is important, but so too are torque levels with 310Nm available from the 100PS, while the 155PS rear wheel drive version delivers 385Nm.
The six speed gearbox is now standard and has longer gearing to reduce noise and improve economy.

There will be two new front-wheel-drive Ford Transit ECOnetic versions, a 100PS FT280 in a short wheelbase low-roof version, and the 125PS FT350 with long wheelbase and medium roof, both equipped with the ECO Pack as standard. The more compact version will provide average CO2 emissions of just 178g/km, which reduces further to 173g/km when equipped with the optional fixed 100 km/h speed limiter.

Christine Lund, chief programme engineer for the Ford Transit, said: "The new Transit ECOnetic FT280 is set to emit up to 16 g/km less CO2 than its predecessor. This clearly means an improvement to both the environmental performance and the operation expenses by cutting fuel costs by up to 10 per cent."
The Transit will also get exended service intervals of up to 50,000 km / 30,000 miles, or every two years. The annual costs for servicing could be cut significantly compared to the previous model Transit – savings somewhere between 25 and 40% depending on model variants.
As a result of customer feedback, whilst the speedlimiter will still come on when started, the driver will now be able to switch it off, unless the customer expressy asks for a fixed limiter.
