VW Commercial Vehicles are planning to expand their existing network of 73 van centres to a total of 80 – ideally by the end of 2012. In addition, Europe’s number one van maker would like a further eighteen service points, bringing the total to 45.
The increase comes on the back of five new van centre openings in 2011.
Although VW are already in discussions with a number of partners for the gapes in their network, Director of commercial vehicles, Alex Smith told us, “we are not proactively seeking new partners but we never close the door and would be pleased to hear from potential van sales and service centres that already offer brilliant technical service with high customer satisfaction.”

Trade Parts Specialists (TPS), which transports automotive trade parts to Independent motor traders and bodyshops, has turned to the Volkswagen Caddy BlueMotion vehicles to help reduce its fuel consumption.
The three Caddy vans were supplied by Sinclair Van Centre (Swansea), as part of its vehicle replacement programme. TPS presently operates a fleet a seven vehicles which supplies over 900 customers across the south west of Wales.
The first major fleet order of new Vauxhall Combo vans has been supplied to Anglian Water. The company, which is the largest water and wastewaster service in England and Wales by geographic area, will take delivery of 52 New Combos for its water and sewage operators and technical staff.
The New Combos specified by Anglian Water are the 1.3 CDTi L2H1 model with long wheelbase and standard height roof, providing an impressive load area of 4.2 cubic metres and a one-tonne gross payload. Specialist vehicle converter Bott has fitted out the 52 New Combos to Anglian Water’s own specification.
Quartix reports increasing concern over the resurgence of lease-finance contracts for vehicle tracking systems and urges prospective buyers to check their supplier’s financial health.
Managing director, Andy Walters, said: “Under this model, customers are asked to commit to payments of £1000 or more per unit – over an extended period – to a bank or finance house, despite the fact that the tracking system has a value of £300 or less.
“The supplier gets all his payment on day one and is free to spend it as he sees fit, without necessarily providing for the proper support of the client over the term of the contract.
Portable toilet hire company, Toilets+ Ltd, has taken delivery of its first Renault Master chassis cabs, into its Mercedes Sprinter dominated fleet. The Masters, six DXi 2.3 (125bp) with L3 cab and one dCi 2.3 (150bp) with L4 cab, are supplied by Renault Trucks’ dealer Norfolk Truck & Van. Along with the entire 50-strong Toilets+ fleet, the new Masters each have a distinctive personalised number plate ending in ‘LOO’.
All the new Renault Masters have bespoke bodies; the 125bps have chassis mounted small vacuum pumper unit plus the facility to carry two toilets, fitted by M&M Commercial Bodybuilders of Norwich; the higher powered Renault Master 150hp is fitted with a flatbed that can carry eight toilets and tow a further eight. The Masters will operate out of the company’s five strategically located depots across East Anglia and the South East, supplying portable toilets to a range of customers and requirements, including events, weddings and the construction industry.
