Sprinter E-CELL Prototype Revealed

Mercedes-Benz has demonstrated the Sprinter E-Cell at the IAA in Hanover. On show in chassis cab form, the new Sprinter E-Cell will give electric van customers many options if it makes it to market alongside the Vito E-Cell.
There are now approaching 500 Vito E-CELL vans in use around the world – including in the UK. The technology has beenn improved and the sales and distribution network has been extended.
The technology of the Sprinter E-CELL is similar to that of the Vito E-CELL but has been changed to work within the rear wheel drive set up.
The motor of the Sprinter E-CELL can reach a constant output of 70 kW with a short-term peak output of 100 kW with energy taken from two lithium ion batteries, each with 93 cells and a combined capacity of 35.2 kWh.
The powerful charger of the Sprinter E-CELL supplies 22 kW at a current of 32 amps. When connected to a 400-volt power source, the batteries can be charged in less than two hours.
The top speed of the Sprinter E-CELL is limited to 80 km/h in favour of an extended range of approximately 135 km. With a maximum gross vehicle weight of 3.5 tonnes, the payload of the Sprinter E-CELL can be up to 1200 kg, depending on the body. The usual summer and winter tests are already planned, as are crash tests which the Vito
E-CELL also needs to pass successfully.
