Mercedes‑Benz Vans: a full-line supplier thanks to the new Citan

Thanks to the Citan, Mercedes‑Benz Vans is now a full range supplier in the van class. The Citan is a smooth progression on from the successful Mercedes-Benz Vito. With the Citan and the established Vito, Sprinter and Vario models, Mercedes‑Benz Vans now provides the complete spectrum from the urban delivery van to the large-capacity van and from 1.8 t to 7.5 t permissible gross vehicle weight. The comfortable Viano complements the product range in the large transporter vehicle sector. The Citan is as individual as the application areas of its customers. With three lengths and three variants, the Citan panel van, Dualiner and Traveliner constitute a comprehensive model range.

Instantly recognisable brand image with prominent radiator grille

A true Mercedes‑Benz at first glance: the Mercedes‑Benz Citan’s confident look is unmistakable. The characteristic appearance revolves around the confidently displayed, chrome-plated star in the prominent and sturdy radiator grille with its three sporty, perforated fins. The Citan’s distinctive headlamps and the arrow-shaped bonnet with its clearly defined edges are no less striking.

The pronounced arrow-shape of the radiator grille and the upright headlamps emphasise the dynamism of the Citan. The front headlamps with a clear-glass look catch the eye with a combination of matt grey areas and bright chromium plated elements. The optional front fog lamps and the standard daytime running lamps are integrated into the front bumper.

The trapezoidal cool air intake in the bumper emphasises the powerful appearance of the Citan. This feature is also a styling element typical of Mercedes‑Benz and can also be found throughout, from the current compact-class passenger-car range right up to the new Actros. The interplay of positive and negative shapes lends a particular attractiveness to the face of the Citan.

From the side, the silhouette of this urban delivery van takes on an almost sporty air thanks to the wedge-shaped front section. In particular, it is the optional 15″ light-alloy wheels, flush with the outer edge of the wheel arch, which help the Citan to maintain a confident road stance.

An instantly recognisable rear with great attention to detail

The rear window in the Traveliner variant also emphasises width. Its angled lower edge takes up the line of the vertically arranged rear lights perfectly – the Citan provides a highly detailed example of the Mercedes‑Benz designer’s skill. The clearly defined one-piece tail lights under clear red glass sport a pattern of bright and matt chrome plated lines.

On the versions with twin rear doors, the panel for the registration plate is located on the left-hand door which is the wider of the two asymmetrical doors. If the customer purchases the Mercedes‑Benz Citan with a tailgate, the licence plate is centrally positioned.

With its unique appearance, the Citan stands out among urban delivery vans whilst easily finding its place alongside the Sprinter and the Vito in the family of Mercedes‑Benz vans.

The powerful bumpers and numerous grained and unpainted plastic surfaces emphasise the robust and resilient character of the Citan. If a particularly elegant appearance is sought, Mercedes‑Benz can also deliver the Citan with the bumpers, the housing for the exterior mirrors and the panel above the tail lights painted in the colour of the vehicle.

The refreshing look of the Citan is not designed as an end in itself. It is reflected in excellent aerodynamics, which in turn contributes towards minimising fuel consumption.


Quality: a true Mercedes‑Benz right down to the very last detail

Joints, edges and surface recesses are precisely designed and no less precisely implemented. The appearance of the Citan conveys a feeling of quality at first glance. Any vehicle that sports the Mercedes star also sports Mercedes quality under the bonnet: the new urban delivery van, although manufactured in co-operation with a partner company, still meets every aspect of the high demands placed on a Mercedes‑Benz. Thus the quality of the bodyshell was considerably improved by means of process optimisation.

In order to provide comprehensive protection against corrosion, the bodywork of the Citan is made only of fully galvanized sheet metal panels. Prior to painting, the complete bodywork is coated with cathodic dip priming. A second coat is applied to certain parts of the Citan, for example to the rear axle spring to protect it from stone chipping.

The wheel arch trim on the front and rear axles is made of plastic and improves protection against corrosion whilst also reducing noise level. A cavity protection agent with wax is also applied to cavities. A comprehensive PVC seam sealant further supports corrosion prevention.

Finally and no less important, each Mercedes‑Benz Citan is checked and approved by a team wearing the Mercedes star at the end of production.


Comfortable, robust and top-quality workplace

The high-quality equipment in the interior of the Citan are as unmistakable as those on the vehicle’s exterior. It achieves the high standard typical of Mercedes‑Benz and demonstrates its close relationship to other Mercedes-Benz vehicles in many ways. Upholstery, fabrics and materials, for example, are consistent with the established quality of the Mercedes‑Benz Vito.

Both the driver and the co-driver have seats with taut, yet comfortable upholstery. The upholstery was developed specifically for the Citan. The shape of the backrests, in particular, follows the line of the body and provides lateral support and thus comfort and safety. The fabric cover of the seats is both skin-friendly and breathable as well as being easy-to-clean and resilient, a feature that is once again typical of the brand.

Not only are the front seats adjustable in the longitudinal direction, but also the angle of the backrest. The seats in the Citan Dualiner and Traveliner can also be adjusted in height (panel van on request). A folding seat is also available in conjunction with the optional adjustable grille partition on the co-driver’s side of the panel van. A double co-driver’s seat is in the preparation stage. This will, above all, increase the flexibility of the Citan panel van.

High-quality materials for the instrument panel

The driver-friendly instrument panel of the Citan takes up the powerful, striking design of the exterior. Its surface features leatherlike graining that is pleasing to both the eye and to the touch. This material resists scratches and is very easy to clean. Its colour and structure are typical of the brand.

Steering wheel, instruments and operation are typical of Mercedes‑Benz

Mercedes‑Benz drivers will immediately feel at home in the cockpit of the Citan. This is initially due to the familiar star on the impact plate of the three-spoke steering wheel with its lower double-spoke. It is adjustable in height and allows the driver a clear view of the brand-typical instruments. A leather steering wheel is available as an option.

On all models, the instrument cluster comprises a speed display, a rev counter and displays for the coolant temperature and fuel level. An indicator lamp shows the status of the doors. The odometer reading is in a central position in the lower section of the speedometer. Information from the trip computer is also shown here; this includes fuel consumption, the current distance travelled and the remaining range.

Furthermore, the Citan boasts the high level of functionality also typical of the brand. The combination switch on the steering column, the gear-lever knob in the centre console, the light switch to the left of the steering wheel in the instrument panel or the other control buttons – the arrangement, appearance and function of the driver’s workplace all correspond to the familiar Mercedes‑Benz standards. The position of the button for the hazard warning lamps in the upper section of the centre console and the four round air vents are also typical.

Top-quality, resilient, easy-to-clean trim

All of the trim elements in the vehicle interior are top-quality, functional and easy-to-clean. The front doors are panelled with easy-to-maintain plastic and in the Traveliner this can be complemented with a section of fabrics as an option. The floor covering in the rear of load compartment is made of resilient plastic. The floor of the Traveliner can be fitted with carpet if required.

The roof is lined in the panel van up to the B-pillar, in the Dualiner up to the C-pillar and completely in the Traveliner with M1 type approval (passenger car). Depending on the model variant and the usage, different types of trim are available for the load compartment, luggage compartment, the sliding doors, tailgate and rear doors.

Focus on functionality

The Citan places key emphasis on functionality for everyday use: a large glove compartment, a stowage compartment between the front seats as well as a practical overhead stowage compartment across the entire width of the windscreen and large-volume compartments in the doors offer abundant space for the large and small objects of a driver’s day-to-day life.

The stowage compartments in the doors can hold 1.5 l bottles, for example. The same applies to the optional centre armrest with a stowage compartment. Furthermore, the passenger compartment of the Citan Traveliner can be equipped with an optional overhead stowage compartment with three lockable sections, and two covered compartments in the vehicle floor. An optional stowage compartment on the instrument panel for objects up to DIN A4 size for all versions of the Citan is in the preparation phase.

Count all of the possible stowage compartments in the Citan and the result is a total volume of 77 litres in the cockpit and passenger compartment.

Heating and ventilation function efficiently

The round fresh air vents in the cockpit are designed to allow a high rate of air flow. The air recirculation button prevents contaminated air from entering the vehicle from the outside. As the economic diesel engines of the Citan only produce minimal heat, all Citan CDI vehicles are equipped with an electric heater booster as standard. It switches on automatically, depending on the temperature of the coolant or the setting of the rotary switch for the temperature.

A hot air duct for the rear compartment is available as special equipment for the Dualiner and Traveliner. It conducts temperature-controlled air into the passenger compartment. The Citan is also available with air-conditioning or Tempmatic, the semi-automatic air-conditioning system. This ensures a constant pre-selected interior temperature.

Whoever exits the Citan is guided home safely: the headlamps are equipped with a comfortable follow-me-home function for whenever occupants leave the vehicle.


Four engines cater for all needs

There is a broad selection of engines available for the new Citan. The powerful, smooth-running and highly efficient turbodiesel direct-injection Mercedes-Benz OM 607 with a displacement of 1.5 l is supplied in three different output levels:

  • · Citan 108 CDI, output 75 hp, torque 180 Nm
  • · Citan 109 CDI, output 90 hp, torque 200 Nm
    • · Citan 111 CDI, output 110 hp, torque 240 Nm

The range is complemented by the lively, turbocharged M 200.71 petrol engine with a capacity of 1.2 l:

  • · Citan 112, output 114 hp, torque 190 Nm.

The Citan 108 CDI and 109 CDI are available now; the Citan 111 CDI and Citan 112 variants will round off the range in the summer of next year.

Extremely economic diesel engine with three different output levels

The four-cylinder diesel engines with a displacement of exactly 1461 cm³ boast extremely low fuel consumption, a high degree of overall economy and a pleasantly smooth ride. The engines have square bore/stroke dimensions with a 76 mm bore and an 80.5 mm stroke. An overhead camshaft controls the valves.

Fuel is conducted into the combustion chambers at a maximum pressure of 1600 bar by electronically controlled direct injection with common rail and precise piezo-controlled injectors. Turbocharging is carried out by an exhaust gas turbocharger with intercooling, or by means of variable turbine geometry in the most powerful version. A controlled oil pump reduces fuel consumption, as does the ECO start/stop function, available as an option.

The diesel engines achieve maximum engine output at 4000 rpm, and maximum torque at 1750 rpm. Maximum torque is available over a broad engine speed. Accordingly, the Citan offers excellent driveability over a broad engine speed range.

Top-quality mountings in conjunction with common-rail injection ensure a smooth ride with the compact diesel engines. The tooth belt for driving the camshaft has a life expectancy of 150,000 miles while the maintenance intervals are extremely high at 25,000 miles. This not only results in exceptionally economical fuel consumption but very low operating costs.

Low fuel consumption corresponds to low CO2 emissions. The oxidation catalytic converter located close to the engine as well as the standard-fit particle filter, exhaust gas recirculation and reduced noise levels stand for the best possible environmental protection. The diesel engines comply with the Euro V emissions standard.

Spirited and powerful petrol engine

As an alternative to the diesel engines, a lively, high-torque turbocharged petrol engine with direct injection is also available. This engine complies with the Euro V emissions standard and features a three-way catalytic converter. The four-cylinder engine with 1.2 l displacement has a whole range of technical features at its disposal. These include an aluminium crankcase, four-valve-per-cylinder design and two overhead camshafts. Thanks to the 73.2 mm bore and 72 mm stroke (1192 cm³ displacement) the engine has square bore/stroke dimensions. The result is large valve diameters and, in turn, well-filled cylinders. Six-holed injection nozzles guarantee excellent injection of the fuel.

The engine’s compact exhaust gas turbocharger reacts fast and guarantees 90 % of the maximum torque at just 1500 rpm. The engine achieves the maximum torque of 190 Nm within an extremely large engine speed range of 2000 rpm to 4000 rpm. The maximum output of 114 hp is reached at 4500 rpm.

The low fuel consumption of the petrol engine is further reduced by the oil pump. It operates, as necessary, with two pressure levels. BlueEFFICIENCY technology with an ECO start/stop function is standard in the petrol engine. It automatically switches off the engine in standby phases. This occurs when the transmission is in neutral, when the clutch is not depressed and speed is below 2.5 mph. The engine starts up again as soon as the vehicle begins to roll again or the driver depresses the clutch.

Well-matched five and six-gear manual transmission

For the two lower-output diesel engine variants 90/110 hp, power transmission is handled by a five-speed manual transmission. The petrol engine and the high-power diesel both use a six-speed manual transmission. In all cases the driver shifts gears using an easy-to-reach joystick-type gear lever on the centre console. All vehicles feature front-wheel drive.

Both transmissions excel with double-cone synchronisation in the two lower gears which results in a perceptible reduction in shift force. Not only the forward gears, but also the reverse gear is synchronised for both transmissions. Gear ratios and the spread between the lowest and highest gears are finely tuned to each engine and weight variant. Thus the overall ratio of the load-uprated Citan with five-speed transmission is shorter than for the parallel model of the regular weight class, in favour of driving dynamics and economy. The six-speed transmission is now more widely spread and also reduces both fuel consumption and noise levels at higher speeds.

A shift point display which supports the driver comes as standard. It uses an arrow pointing upwards or downwards to show the most sensible gear change with regard to fuel consumption and driving dynamics. The fuel tank’s capacity of 60 l ensures excellent range.

Lowest fuel consumption in its class

One of the Citan’s trademarks is outstanding fuel economy. It not only displays impressive maintenance intervals of up to 25,000 miles or two years, but also boasts the lowest fuel consumption in its class.

The combined fuel consumption of the Citan 108 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and Citan 109 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is only 65.7 mph in accordance with NEDC. That is the best value in its class and in relation to the vehicle’s dimensions and weight very impressive. Accordingly, as well as boasting the best fuel consumption values, the Citan also produces the lowest exhaust emissions in comparison to competitors: the Citan 108 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and the 109 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY emit only 112 g/km CO2 and thus help preserve the environment both in the city and outlying districts, the typical operating areas of the Citan.

These extremely low fuel consumption and emissions values are the result of the complex, precision work of the engineers at Mercedes‑Benz. This includes not only the efficient drive train, but also the electric power steering featured as standard, the controlled oil pump and the battery management system. Details such as the flat-blade windscreen wipers and the newly shaped exterior mirror housings clearly demonstrate the optimisation of the vehicle’s aerodynamics.

Fleet operators can also further increase the Citan’s efficiency by means of a limit speed set at the factory. Furthermore, cruise control in combination with a speed limiter is also available.

BlueEFFICIENCY package reduces fuel consumption to a minimum

The BlueEFFICIENCY package comes as standard for the petrol engine and is also optionally available for the diesel engines. It reduces the already favourable fuel consumption values by up to 5.5mpg to 65.7 mpg. BlueEFFICIENCY includes, among other things, the ECO start/stop function as well as battery and alternator management. Thanks to the alternator management, braking energy can be recovered. This thus reduces the power that the alternator must generate and in turn further reduces fuel consumption. The heart of battery management is a sensor which continuously determines data such as current ratings, voltage and temperature of the vehicle’s battery. These values help to ensure efficient generation, intelligent distribution and optimised storage of energy.

The vehicle, depending on the variant, also has rolling-resistance optimised tyres that reduce fuel consumption yet further. These tyres in the 195/65 R 15 size are included in the scope of the BlueEFFICIENCY package for variants with a payload capacity of up to 650 kg.

Driving characteristics are safe, dynamic and comfortable as befits the brand

The chassis on the new Mercedes‑Benz Citan is based on a McPherson front axle with a spring strut and lower rectangular wishbones and stabilisers. Classic rubber mounts on the lower wishbones ensure good driving characteristics and a high degree of comfort. The rear axle is a space-saving compound-link axle with trailing arms, coil springs and an internal stabiliser.

The Citan is delivered as standard with 185/70 R 14 (Citan Compact) or 195/65 R 15 (Long, Extra long) tyres. Wheels and tyres up to 205/55 R 16 and light-alloy wheels are available as an option. Furthermore, depending on the model, reinforced and all-season tyres are also available.

The engineers behind the Mercedes‑Benz Citan set out to achieve brand-typical driving characteristics through a combination of driving dynamics, safety and comfort. The electric power steering, with a steering column that is adjustable in height, operates with high precision and minute sensitivity. This and the chassis, typical of the brand, contribute to the precise handling of the Citan. The steering’s power assistance is dependent on driving speed. It ensures easy steering when manoeuvring and taut, smooth steering characteristics at high speeds.

Completely new attuned chassis, precise driving characteristics

The suspension, dampers and stabilisers are new developments and have all been carefully attuned to one another. Short springs, a high spring rate and rigid damping on the front and rear axles contribute towards dynamic driving characteristics, prevent pitching vibrations and give the Citan a sporty appearance. Stabilisers on the front and rear axles reduce the roll angle in corners. The suspension on the Citan Long panel van as well as the Traveliner is lowered by about 15 mm at the front and rear axles when driving under normal load.

Both empty as well as laden, the Citan is a typical Mercedes‑Benz in displaying the precise, stable and simultaneously comfortable handling already familiar to drivers from the Sprinter and the Vito. The Citan is largely impervious to heavy loads and side winds, and it experiences only slight sprung mass vibrations.

Fade-free brakes with excellent grip

The brakes on the Citan are just as safe and dynamic as the chassis. They have an excellent grip and show good brake control. Braking performance is maintained even after ten full brake applications from a speed of 62mph. The Citan Long and Extra Long variants are equipped with disc brakes measuring 280 mm in diameter on the front axle. The Citan Compact has disc brakes (diameter 258 mm) at the front and drum brakes (9 inch) on the rear axle.

The Citan steals the show with ABS anti-lock braking system, EBV electronic brake force distribution, hydraulic Brake Assist and Start-off Assist as standard for all models. Start-off Assist maintains brake pressure for several seconds after the brake has been released and thus prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards as it pulls away.


Uncompromisingly safe: ADAPTIVE ESP®, up to six airbags

Just like any other Mercedes‑Benz, the new Citan features extensive safety equipment. A key feature – standard for all models – is the electronic stability program ADAPTIVE ESP® that takes the vehicle’s load into account.

In the Citan, this innovative driving dynamics control system combines the function of the ABS anti-lock braking system, the EBV electronic brake force distribution, the EBR engine friction torque control, the VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) system that regulates over and understeer as well as the TCS traction control system. It also covers the ASR acceleration skid control as well as drive and braking torque control and numerous associated sub-functions.

In exceptional cases the driver can deactivate acceleration skid control at the press of a button. However it will be switched on again automatically if the vehicle’s operating status is unstable or the vehicle’s speed is in excess of 31 mph.

Standard equipment also includes a range of passive safety systems. The driver’s and co-driver’s seats are equipped with height-adjustable, three-point seat belts with belt tensioners and belt force limiters. The driver’s seat is also fitted with a belt warning system (the co-driver’s seat also in the Traveliner): if the seat belt is not engaged above a shunting speed of 10 mph, an acoustic warning sounds, the radio is muted and a warning symbol in the instrument cluster is activated.

The rear bench seat of the Citan Dualiner and Citan Traveliner is also fitted with three-point seat belts. The rear side seats are equipped with a belt forcer limiter and the Traveliner also has Isofix child seat attachment points.

Up to six airbags protect the driver and passengers

A driver’s airbag with a volume of 60 l is standard for all Citan vehicles. The Traveliner with passenger car approval is equipped with a front-passenger airbag with a volume of 110 l. It is available for all other variants as an option.

Thorax-sidebags are also optional (standard in the M1 Traveliner). They are located on the side of the front-seat backrests. In addition windowbags are available for the driver, co-driver and the rear seats of the Traveliner. Should a side impact occur, these form a curtain in front of the side windows.

Standard equipment for all versions of the Citan includes daytime running lamps and additional convex fields in both exterior mirrors – which are important when driving, particularly for delivery vans. The activation of hazard warning lamps after a critical braking situation is also standard.

Range featuring three lengths and three model variants

The versatility and adaptability of the new Mercedes‑Benz Citan make it the ideal solution for the very different demands placed on urban delivery vans. As a panel van, Dualiner and Traveliner in three lengths with several door variants, it meets all the demands of professional use in this class. The basis for the comprehensive range is the panel van in three lengths from 3.94 m (Citan Compact) to 4.32 m (Long) to 4.71 m (Extra Long).

The new Citan panel van: the space giant

Despite its compact dimensions, the new Citan panel van is a true space giant. The load compartment of the panel van measures 1.36 m, 1.75 m or 2.13 m long (Citan Compact, Long, Extra Long). The corresponding volumes are 2.4 m³, 3.1 m³ or 3.8 m³. Depending on the length and weight variant, the payload is about 500 kg (Citan Compact), 650 kg (Long) or 800 kg (Extra Long).

The spacious load compartment can be accessed from the side through one or two sliding doors. The standard asymmetric rear doors can be open up to either 90 degrees or 180 degrees to facilitate loading. In the standard version the lower area of the doors is panelled and windows are available if required. In this case a rear window wiper is standard equipment on the larger left door.

Alternatively, Mercedes‑Benz supplies the Citan panel van in the Compact and Long versions with a tailgate. It opens to an angle of a little over 90 degrees and has a window with a rear window wiper as standard. As an option the load compartment can be expanded by means of roof rails or the optional ladder flap for the panel van.

Large through-loading dimensions, numerous resilient load securing rings

The load compartment sill on the rear is only 568 mm above the road surface. The through-loading measurement between the wheel arches is 1219 mm; large enough for a Euro pallet. Depending on the length of the vehicle, the load can be secured using four, six or eight load securing rings located in the vehicle’s floor. The load capacity of 500 daN exceeds the relevant DIN specifications. Depending on the selected door variant or length, up to four load securing rings can also be fitted to each sidewall as an option. If required, a rail for the sidewall is also available with two movable load securing rings.

The panel van comes as standard with a full partition wall closing off the load compartment. A folding safety grille is optionally available. In conjunction with the folding co-driver’s seat, the grille can be used to expand the cargo space right up to the dashboard on the left-hand side while simultaneously protecting the driver from the objects stowed there.

The load compartment of the Citan panel van features partial panelling in the lower section as standard, but full panelling is available as an option. Synthetic plastic flooring is standard and a wooden flooring is also available as an option.

The new Citan Dualiner: a practical van for employees and materials

The variable five-seater Citan Dualiner is ideal when employees, materials or even both must be transported. The van is particularly useful for small trades, for example. Thanks to a folding rear bench seat, an optional separator grille closing off the load compartment and two glazed sliding doors, it is particularly flexible. The Citan Dualiner is based on the Extra Long variant and thus has a large load compartment of 2.4 m³ even with the maximum seating. The load compartment behind the folding bench seat is panelled between the C and D-pillar just like a panel van.

Two variants of the folding bench seat are available. One or two thirds of the bench seat can be folded away in the standard version. The interior layout can thus be altered to accommodate two, three, four or five seats. A folding co-driver’s seat provides further options; for example three seats plus stowage space for particularly long objects or as a variant with only a driver’s seat.

Alternatively, there is also a three-seater bench seat with an integrated wire mesh partition. The partition separates the rear compartment from the load compartment. If the whole bench seat is moved forward to create more space in the load compartment, the two-part partition safely separates the remaining area of the driver’s and co-driver’s compartment from the load compartment.

A cargo retention grille permanently attached to the C-pillar is also available for the Citan Dualiner. Its through-load width between the wheel arches is 1219 mm and thus able to take pallets. Six cargo load securing rings in the vehicle’s floor and further optional rings in the sidewalls serve to secure loads.

The new Citan Traveliner: versatile and comfortable

The Citan Traveliner is the third basic version. It is a five-seater with a folding rear bench seat and is based on the Long variant. The standard version includes a sliding door on the right-hand side or, alternatively, doors on both sides are optionally available. The sidewalls of the Citan Traveliner are completely glazed. The standard version also features a glazed tailgate with a wiper and washer system. The inner side of the tailgate is panelled with hard-wearing plastic.

Occupants in the rear are seated on a bench seat of which one or two thirds can be folded forward. Folding tables with an integrated cup holder are also available as an option. With a number of seating arrangements, the Traveliner is just as flexible as the Dualiner.

The load compartment cover in the Citan Traveliner also offers a high-degree of flexibility. It can be fastened in two horizontal positions or fixed to the backrest of the bench seat for storage. The area below is panelled. Six load securing rings are located in the floor of the Citan Traveliner.

Optional extras allow the Citan to be tailored perfectly to customer wishes

The new Citan’s standard equipment is oriented towards practical use and includes a height-adjustable steering wheel, remote central locking, heated and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors and a radio/CD player with Bluetooth connectivity for telephony.

With a whole range of customisation options, the Mercedes‑Benz Citan can be tailored perfectly to the tasks required of it by the customer. Besides additional safety and comfort, the range primarily features additional function options. Currently, around 150 types of special equipment are available for all variants.

Various partitioning elements, a folding co-driver’s seat facilitating extension of the load space, a selection of door and window configurations and load-space panelling are just some of the optional extras available. In order to simplify purchasing options we have developed a number of logically compiled option packages, as an alternative to purchasing individual options.

Some of the Citan’s equipment is also available as accessories for retrofitting. The accessories available ex-works also include cargo baskets, carrier systems and stowage trays for the load space. A fixed or detachable trailer coupling is also available.

The Mercedes‑Benz Citan shows itself to be a real transport pro down to the smallest detail. Attachment bodies made by bodybuilders can be adapted to the vehicle’s technology by means of a special interface and a special module. The interface is required for the power supply, reading out vehicle signals and, if necessary, increasing engine speed in neutral. The special module evaluates information from the vehicle without accessing the CAN network. It supplies engine data such as engine speed and temperature, the speed and status of the brakes, clutch and doors.
