VW vans have come up with a great looking take on the delivery van of the future. Working with Deutsche Post, (who operate plenty of vehicles) they came up with a vehicle based on the VW Transporter called the eT!
The company focused on zero-emissions driving and available space in urban areas plus semiautomatic driving functions.
The van uses electric wheel hub motors which make it highly manoeuvrable as well as making the most of the vehicle’s interior space. Don’t expect to see this or anything like it on the streets anytime soon – it is just fantasyland at the moment. The van can follow the delivery person from house to house (“Follow me”), or it can return to the delivery person on command (“Come to me”) – with no driver involved. Rather than simply steering the van, the driver can direct the car’s movements via a ‘drive stick’ from the passenger’s side that also offers a standing seat and quick access to the vehicle.
Remote control vans – whatever next?
