Nissan is adapting the technology the company uses in their LEAF passenger car to be used in the next generation of commercial vehicles. These vehicles are on show at the 2011 Tokyo Truck show, despite the fact that work only started on the electric vans in July this year.
Nissan is showing the e-NT400 Cabstar Concept and the Cabstar Refrigerated van.
The e-NT400 Cabstar Concept is an EV concept vehicle based on the Cabstar and equipped with Nissan LEAF components. The vehicle also boasts a cruising range of 100 km. Nissan claim that their Cabstar Refrigerated van is the first of its kind in the world. Its refrigerating compressor operates on a combination of an electric motor with a lithium-ion battery power system. The vehicle’s high-efficiency electric compressor makes it possible to keep the chilled/freezer compartments operating even when the vehicle engine is switched off.
The Cabstar Refrigerated van is scheduled for release in Japan in late 2012.
