How many more van variants do we really need?

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

Go back to 1994 and you could order yourself a new panel van (lwb or swb) or have a car derived van. At a push you could go for a high roof. That was it. Buying a van back in the day was straightforward- what colour do I want my Ford Transit to be?

Fast forward a couple of years and you have some more choice – the Mercedes Vito hits the streets followed by the Vivaro and Dispatch which have led to a new category of medium-sized vans. At the same time the Renault Kangoo burst onto the scene with the Berlingo hot on it’s heels and the Ford Connect bringing up the rear and another new category was born – the small panel van? Well what would you call it?

BMW Pick Up – You Know you Want One…

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Check out the BMW pick UpFor the grand price of $1900 this could be yours, (you have to go to the States to get it though……

Really one of a kind… A ‘custom’ 1985 BMW 325e Pick up truck? It comes with the usual Beemer 6 cyl and automatic ‘box. The owner says that it needs a little work but it’s priced accordingly at $1900. (We have no idea what it would cost to import if you wanted to). Apparanlty it ‘runs and shifts great but needs brakes’. The aircon doesn’t work and the windows don’t open – vests only are required (maybe a Staff Terrier too).

Rainbow Vans Abound- A Yellow Vauxhall Astravan hits vanlocator

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Hot on the heels of the pink Ford Ranger there comes a bright yellow Vauxhall Astravan, which should appeal to lovers of brightly coloured vehicles.
Yellow Vauxhall Astravan for sale

The Van is an early 2008 registered vehicle on a ‘57′ plate and comes directly from the first owner, who must have had a penchant for yellow. In days gone by there were thousands of yellow vans on the used market, as it was the favoured colour of the GPO’s phone support vans. Since BT have moved over to white vans, away from their grey/blue colours, a yellow van is a relatively rare beast!

The van is fully plylined and has ABS, and power steering. 69,000 miles on the clock means that there is plenty of miles left in the car-derived van which is advertised at a price of just £3,999+VAT.

Fitted with a caged tipper at the rear and an amber beacon on the roof, this pink Ford Ranger could be put to a variety of uses immediately, although the driver may need to wear sunglasses even at night as the colour is so distinctive.

The Ranger has just 69,000 miles on the clock and was registered in early 2007 as a ‘56′ plate. Fitted with Ford’#s 2.5-litre TDCi diesel, the payload of the tipper is still over a tonne with a gross vehicle weight of just over the three tonne mark.

New Volkswagen Transporter Multivan 7 Seater with BlueMotion

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

New Transporter MultivanVW vans are demonstrating their BlueMotion system on the Transporter T5 Multivan (also known as a Combi van)at the IAA in Frankfurt. Compared to its counterpart with a comparable engine from the current range (75 kW TDI), at just 6.4 l/100 km the Multivan BlueMotion needs 0.9 litres less diesel (equivalent to 169 rather than 193 g/km of CO2). This has been achieved by means of an efficient, torque-strong common rail four-cylinder engine combined with a Stop/Start system, battery regeneration, tyres with particularly low rolling resistance and special aerodynamic measures.

Volkswagen Amarok gets new Auto Gearbox

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

From next year the VW Amarok gets some new gearbox options which include an innovative 8-speed automatic transmission. This new transmission system which gives an MPG better than the manual version with CO2 emissions of 199 g/km.
Sporting a new 8-speed automatic transmission, the Amarok is the first pick-up in its class to have a transmission system of this kind. The additional gear levels made it possible to achieve a broader gear ratio spread between the 1st and 8th gears compared to a conventional automatic transmission. That had some very positive effects: thanks to this greater spread the TDI engine works even more effectively in every rev range, and it is more fuel-efficient and agile. Moreover, 8th gear was configured as a fuel-saving overdrive gear that operates at reduced engine speed. The first gear is configured for pulling away in off-road use or when towing. Like the manual version, the Amarok with automatic transmission and permanent 4-wheel drive is thus also highly capable in all-terrain use without any need for additional reduction gearing.

Unlike other pickups, the Isuzu Rodeo doesn’t just have bespoke parts, it’s an entirely bespoke vehicle built from the ground up to take on a broad range of challenges in the widest variety of conditions.
Isuzu believes that a pickup isn’t a pickup if it is not equally as good off-road as it is on the tarmac. Thanks to its commercial vehicle DNA and decades of Isuzu expertise, the Rodeo can make the toughest of jobs seem effortless and the inaccessible suddenly isn’t.
In its latest form, the Rodeo line-up presents UK consumers with a choice of eight models, single and double cab body styles, two diesel engines, two- or four-wheel drive and manual or automatic transmissions.
