The first examples of Volkswagen’s new Crafter van will be turning up at their Van Centres across the country in a couple of weeks. The biggest change is the adoption of the same engine seen in the New Transporter and Amarok. This will certainly keep the parts bin to a
minimum when it comes to servicing all Volkswagen commercial vehicles! The smaller, lighter 2-litre engine means a massive reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the outgoining 2.5TDi model. Add the Blueefficiency package and the performance improves further still.

The latest Low Emissions Zone (LEZ) regulations will be introduced on the 3 January 2012 are set to impact on the thousands of converted vans, minibuses and motor caravans owned by sports enthusiasts.

Thirty one percent of all fatal, serious and over-three-day injuries reported by the HSE for the year ending April 2010 were related to manual handling. A further 30% were caused by slips, trips and falls on the same level and 9% to falls from any height. These represent the first, second and fourth largest categories in the HSE’s figures and equate to more than 80,000 people whose lives were directly affected. Countless more family members, friends, colleagues and employers will have also been involved. These figures make stark reading and once again highlight the importance of health and safety in the workplace.

Up to the end of June, VW Vans, Europe’s leading manufacturer of light commercial vehicles delivered 260,300 units worldwide, an increase of 29 percent in comparison with the same period last year. As the Brand’s strongest seller, the T5, with its variants Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan, and California, notched up 80,416 deliveries to customers worldwide (up 11.9 percent), followed closely by the Caddy at 80,101 units, up 30.6 percent.

We are now starting to see the drop in availability of used vans thanks to new van registrations falling off a cliff three years ago according to van auction company BCA.
With fewer vans entering the contract hire market in the second half of 2008 as the recession began to bite, there are fewer coming back to the market today on three-year cycles.

A fleet of nineteen Ford Transit Econetic vans are on their way to equipment hire company Speedy Hire thanks to Gordons of Bolton. It is no surprise that the company has opted for Ford vans – the company already operates a fleet of some 2000 Ford vehicles. What is interesting is that they have opted for the greener variant.
FACELIFT FOR 2012 TOYOTA HILUX
Friday, July 15th, 2011Toyota have released pictures of the new facelifted Toyota Hiace 2012 model year, which arrives in the UK from October this year. The biggest changes are to the front of the pickup with new bonnet, grille, lights and bumpers, whilst the engines receive a retune and a particulate filter for 10% fuel savings and improved emissions.
