This has to be the perfect pickup van for someone who needs to do some heady lifting. A Nissan D22 pickup with a taillift capable of lifting up to 400kg that replaces the rear tailgate. Even with the tail lift installed, this single cab workhorse still manages a payload of over a tonne. Not lacking in power, it comes with a 131bhp 2.5 litre diesel engine.

Friday, April 22nd, 2011Ford Retail Group is to be responsible for the selling of the Electric Ford Transit Connect, confirmed by the manufacturer, Azure Dynamics.
Perhaps an unsurprising move that the Ford-owned dealer group should be the first to have the Connect Electric available for marketing in the UK prior to any other dealer. It is not yet clear whether other dealer groups will be given a shoot at selling the £40,000 van in the longer term. The company told us, “It is important when establishing a dealer network that the size, location and expertise of that network matches customer demand and needs – both now and for looking forward. This is particularly important with a new sector of the market. At present, Azure Dynamics are not looking to expand its network in the UK as it wants to ensure Ford Retail staff in all its key locations are properly trained and equipped to effectively look after those customers currently placing orders for the Transit Connect Electric.”
“Early Days” for Mercedes-Benz Retail’s London Van Foray
Thursday, April 21st, 2011“London is a huge opportunity for us – especially with the next phase of the LEZ around the corner,” explains Steve Bridge, director van sales and marketing for Mercedes-Benz. This explains the rationale behind the move to company-owned MB Retail UK retailing and servicing new Vitos and Sprinters at their London sites for the first time.
He continues, “Vans sit between heavy commercials and the ‘glitzy’ car dealerships. The Mercedes-Benz Vito is a more ‘retail – based’ product and lends itself for selling through the car network, whilst the Sprinter is more likely to suit the dedicated commercial vehicle outlets.”

VW Commercial Vehicles March Record
Monday, April 18th, 2011Speaking at last month’s CV Show, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles managing director, Simon Elliot told audiences that the company had sold more vans in March than ever before.
He puts this success partially down to the availability of finance, however, the main reason is their standalone commercial vehicle network which, “can focus on the needs of customers.” Elliot continues that he wants to turn Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles into a “sexy” brand. It is unclear how this will be achieved through the sponsorship of darts, although the Volkswagen Caddy racer did look impressive on the stand – the only can to compete in a car racing series, (albeit with a car’s driveline).
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter NGT Information
Saturday, April 16th, 2011The environmentally-friendly Mercedes Sprinter NGT (Natural Gas Technology) is a relatively new addition to the Mercedes-Benz van range, but one that is proving increasingly attractive to operators seeking to ‘clean up their act’.

Trials by local authorities in Leeds, Sheffield and Bedfordshire, have proved a resounding success, with orders now pending. And Waitrose recently purchased five Sprinter NGTs which run on liquid biomethane made from landfill gas.
