BCA’s figures show that average values for Mitsubishi L200 and Ford Ranger models (at three years and 60K miles) have recovered well since the turn of the year, but still remain behind the market peak values seen earlier in 2008. At the very bottom of the market, average L200 values were below £4,000, while Ranger models were just above £3,000. Thursday, July 30th, 2009Reinforced Peugeot vans take up front line duties with Northumbria Police
12 4-tonne Boxer vans from Peugeot’s Special Vehicle Operations division to be used by officers on crowd control duties
Standard vans converted with reinforced bodywork, glass and tyres, plus hi-visibility markings, lights and sirens
Peugeot vans featuring reinforced bodywork, glass and tyres are to take up front line duties protecting officers at Northumbria Police.
The twelve 4-tonne Boxer vans supplied by Peugeot’s Special Vehicle Operations division will be used as Police Support Unit (PSU) carriers and will transport officers tasked with maintaining public order and crowd control at events such as parades, demonstrations and football matches. They will also be deployed in the event of civil emergencies, working in partnership with other ‘blue light’ services.
Each vehicle is on 24 hour standby, and is specially designed to carry specialised kit that includes protective shields, helmets, uniforms, communications equipment, fire extinguishers and first aid. They will each spend up to five years and around 100,000 miles with the Force’s six Area Command Units from Berwick in the north to Sunderland in the south and Hexham in the west.
The Boxers will also form the force’s front line mutual aid resource, meaning that if Northumbria is called upon to assist another police force, these vehicles will be the ones despatched, and could therefore end up working across the UK, if required.

Thursday, July 30th, 2009Connaught, the British low carbon technology specialists, is working with representatives at LDV, the Midlands based van manufacturer, to support their desire to achieve a viable future for the company and a swift return to production.
Established in 2003 Connaught Engineering was formed with a vision of delivering Carbon Neutral Transportation and an industry focused board and management team were recruited.
The business is focussing on products that reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in the commercial vehicle sector, within which LDV operates.
The first product to market developed by Connaught is the patented HYBRID+ system, a KERS technology that is proven in independent tests to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 24.7% on diesel engines. A number of blue chip companies in the UK have undertaken trials of this retrofit technology.
The opportunity to fit HYBRID+ to the LDV platforms offers a unique business case for LDV, in supplementing the company’s already green credentials, with a production ready hybrid variant suitable for installation across the range.

FORD TRANSIT EMERGENCY RESPONSE VEHICLES JOIN NORTHERN GAS
Thursday, July 9th, 2009Ford has been selected to provide 134 Ford Transit-based emergency response vehicles for Northern Gas Networks (NGN). Key to NGN’s decision was the Ford Transit’s ability to accommodate on-board power systems.
Each vehicle is crewed by two engineers and is part of an emergency response and repair service covering NGN’s 23,000-mile network of gas pipes. To equip the vehicles for their role, power-conversion systems in the form of under-floor generators and compressors, power-tools, workbenches and racking are fitted.
The emergency response vehicles are based on Ford Transit 350 medium-wheelbase, high-roof models, powered by 2.4-litre 140PS diesel engines driving the rear wheels. Rear-wheel drive is preferred by United Utilities for onboard power conversions, which NGN requires primarily to enable road-drilling.
