VAUXHALL MOVANO 2010 MODEL
The rear wheel drive models are better suited for applications that require high traction – especially with twin rear wheels – the downside, however is the reduction in useable loadspace.
The floor levels are low – which makes for easy loading, whilst the 4.4 metre maximum length and 17m3 load area should cater for any jobs. Larger loads can be carried using a trailer – the maximum trailer towing weight has been increased to 3 tonnes – giving a maximum combination weight of 7.5 tonnes. Loading is made easier with doors that can open 180 degrees as standard – 270 degrees is an optional extra.
The side doors can easily fit a Euro pallet through them – to nearly 1.8 metres in height and the width between the wheel arches is 1.38 metres – making sure pallets can easily slide in.
The new Vauxhall Movano comes with a range of new four-pot, 2.3-litre common rail engines with three power ratings: 100PS, 125PS or 146 PS. Despite the engines being smaller than the outgoing 2.5 diesel model, they have higher levels of torque – but they are also less polluting, giving more MPG. – Chain driven camshafts will save the 60,000 belt changes van operators had become accustomed to. The engines can be ordered as Euro 4 as standard, but for greener operators there is the Euro 5 option, which is available with a particulate trap. Vauxhall are set to launch an ‘Eco’ version later on which will reduce emissions further.
The 6-speed gearbox is fitted across the range as standard and the auto ‘box can be specified as a cost option on the larger, 125 and 146PS engines.
Servicing intervals are lengthened with 25,000 mile oil change intervals and an estimated life of 250,000 miles, whilst the Vauxhall Movano’s MPG is as low as 35.3 for the 3.5t L2H2 100PS version with emissions 211 g/km CO2.
Safety has been taken into account with the new Movano – Active safety measures include ABS with EBD as standard across the range, whilst RWD models get ESP as standard – it is optional for Movanos driven by the front wheels.
‘Passive’ safety is taken care of by a driver’s airbag and seat belt tensioner. You have to pay extra for a passenger airbag, side airbags and headlights that shine around the corners. The Vauxhall Movanos have discs brakes all round, ventilated at the front and standard at the back.
To keep the load safe, there is an assortment of lashing eyes: the SWB variant has six and the middle length has 8, whilst the LWB L3 has 10with 12 for the XLWB L4.
Remote central locking is standard with alternative door locking strategies – locking the cab independent to the load area and vice versa.
